Rising Ground’s Anti-Human-Trafficking program approach includes:

Through this approach Rising Ground aims to enhance access to support for young people, amplify within our organization, mitigate the criminalization of young people, and empower the communities of young people who at risk  for human trafficking.

What is Human Trafficking?

Human Trafficking is a crime committed against a person. Human Trafficking can happen to anyone, regardless of age or gender expression. People can be trafficked for sex or labor. Human Trafficking effects almost 300,000 young people each year.

Recruitment and What To Watch Out For

Traffickers will look for people that are vulnerable. They want to make connections with young people and choose to look for youth in public places such as malls, schools, subways, bus stations, and they patrol certain neighborhoods.

Human traffickers frequently target those who may have runaway, be in foster care, or displaced from their home, be part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Traffickers may be someone you know or someone you’re meeting for the first time.

Online Enticement

Traffickers are looking to lure young people online. Traffickers will try several tactics to make connections online through:

• Online Gaming
• Social Media
• Discord
• Chat featured apps

• Workshops for youth ages 12-21 at your school or within your community settings
• Counseling Groups for young people ages 12-21
• Screening young people who may be at risk of trafficking
• Workshops for staff working with young people who may experience trafficking
• Youth ages 12-21 who are new to this country
